Butterworth Magistrate Court sentenced 20 year old man Lungani Beyi for assaulting his girlfriend with intent to do grievous bodily harm (Assault GBH).
The accused was sentenced to undergo two years imprisonment on 19 July 2018.
The girlfriend is a 19 year old woman. He was accused of having an affair with another man by her boyfriend (accused).
Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu has welcomed the sentence as it will deter some other young men of violence against women. The accused was has been in custody since his arrest as he was not granted bail.
