Two wounded after armed robbery, car chase and shootout

On the night of 3 August 2017, two suspects were wounded and arrested after a car chase and shootout with police. This followed after Bluewater Bay Spar was robbed by four suspects at 19:20.

The suspects entered the Spar shooting in the air and cleaning out all the cashiers and also taking cartons of cigarettes. They fled in a silver Audi, which was spotted shortly thereafter in Fergusson Road, New Brighton by Flying Squad members.

A car chase ensued and there was an exchange of gunshot fire in the process. This ended when the driver of the Audi attempted to drive between two houses and got stuck. Five suspects jumped out of the vehicle still shooting at police.

The SAPS members returning fire wounded a 26 year old suspect at the vehicle, and arrested him with a 9mm fire arm in his possession next to him.

Another 22 year old suspect was also wounded and arrested in the premises of a nearby house while he attempted to evade arrest. Three suspects managed to get away.

On closer inspection of the vehicle, two more fire arms was confiscated as well as cartons of cigarettes. It was also established that the vehicle was hijacked in New Brighton last month.
