In a quest to serve justice to the victim, East London High Court sentenced Luthando Somakhomo (28) to 15 years and 6 months and Thembelenkosini Gxasheka(25) to 10 years imprisonment.

This follows after the two accused raped the 24 year old victim at her Newlands home near Mdantsane, Monday, 10 July 2017. A case of rape was opened at Vulindlela police station. The investigating officer Constable Luvuyo Madikane took over the investigation and arrested the suspects few days later in Newlands.

Judge Igna Stretch did not hesitate to sentence both accused, considering the evidence brought by the investigating officer.

Mdantsane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit commander, Lt Colonel Simphiwe Njenjese applauded the investigating officer, “I would like to thank Constable Luvuyo Madikane for the thorough investigation conducted and eliminating the criminals from the streets. This sentencing will definitely instil the confidence and the trust our community has in the SAPS,” he added.
