Two more garages hit by armed robbers in Nelson Mandela Bay

On the night of 11 August 2017, at about 20:30, four armed suspects robbed the Sasol garage in Nzunga Street, Motherwell. Three entered the garage shop while one remained outside. They took an undisclosed amount of cash, cigarettes and three cellphones from the shop assistants, before fleeing the scene on foot.

This happened just two hours after robbers also robbed a Fidelity guard at the Caltex garage in Struanway, Struandale at 18:00.

The guard was working on a drop safe in the garage, and on returning to his vehicle outside, was pointed and robbed by three armed suspects. An undisclosed amount of money as well as empty cash canisters were taken after which the robbers fled on foot.

In both incidents no shots were fired and no persons were injured.

The Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie expressed his concerns over the recent spate of garage robberies and urged all garages in and around Nelson Mandela Bay to up their security and be on alert.
