Two suspects aged 23 and 26 were arrested on 7 August 2021, at Madiba Squatter Camp in Butterworth area.

The arrest follows after the two stepsons had a quarrel with their stepmother (67) at Ngxakaxa Location in Dutywa on the night of 6 August 2021, at about 20:00. They then assaulted the victim with an iron stick and she died on the scene due to the injuries she sustained.

On arrival Police received information that the suspects fled the scene.

Detectives activated a 72 hour plan and worked tirelessly in tracing the suspects. They followed information they received that they are hiding at Madiba Squatter Camp in Butterworth. They proceeded to the area and arrested them for murder.

Both suspects are due to appear at Dutywa Magistrate court on Tuesday 10 August 2021.

The Acting Amathole District Commissioner Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu applauded the Detectives in ensuring that the Gender Based Violence and Femicide crimes are a priority and suspects are arrested.
