New Brighton Task Team comprising of members of Visible Policing, Crime Intelligence and Detectives have launched a manhunt for the suspects who earlier threatened and robbed two detectives who were on investigation duties on Avenue E in New Brighton. It is alleged that the two detectives were confronted by three males who were sitting along the road.
All three males took out firearms and forced them to stop. As they slowed down to stop, another seven males also with firearms emerged from the railway line and force them out of the vehicle at gunpoint.
They body searched the members and fled on foot with the state vehicles keys which were later found when police were combing the area for clues, and other personal belongings of the members. No shots were fired.
Cases of armed robbery have been opened and are under investigation.
“We condemn any form of intimidation and robbery of our members in the strongest possible terms. We will however not be deterred in the execution of our duties and the Task Team will work around the clock to ensure that these suspects are arrested and face the full might of the law”, said Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga.
