Three people were killed and 15 others were injured in a shooting on the R61 road near the Corona Taxi Rank, in Mthatha on Thursday, Eastern Cape police said.
“At around 6pm the public informed the police that there was a shooting. When we arrived on the scene we found that three people, including two women, died and 15 other people were injured in a shooting on the R61 road. The injured people were rushed to hospital,” Lt-Col Mzukisi Fatyela said.
“The motive of the shooting is not known at the moment. No arrests have been made but the police are following up on information. We are not sure how many shooters there were but we know the weapon was a high-calibre firearm, which is a rifle.”
Fatyela said that the age of the man was unknown and the ladies were aged 26 and 30.
