The East London High Court convicted and sentenced Luyanda Boma (47) and Buhle Vumindaba (22) to life for murder and rape and 10 years imprisonment for robbery.
The three suspects, Luyanda Boma, Buhle Vumindaba and Mthuthuzeli Lala were arrested and charged after they brutally attacked and killed the boyfriend, Luyanda Mroxe (46) and assaulted and raped his girlfriend.
The couple was on their way home at Majarintini, Berlin outside East London at about 20:00 when they were accosted and attacked by three assailants of which amongst them was the victims’ ex-boyfriend, Luyanda Boma.
Accused no. 2, Mthuthuzeli Lala was found not guilty and was discharged.
Acting Mdantsane Cluster Commander, Brigadier Marinda Mills said, “We welcome the sentence because it is important that rapist realize that they will be arrested and will spend the rest of their lives in jail when they commit acts of rape which violates an individual’s’ human rights in the most severe way”.
As a result of the brutal attack, the victim suffered spinal injuries and is now wheelchair bound and relies on social disability grant.
