The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a 79-year-old man and the destruction of his property in Tabase Locality, Zibungu A/A, Libode.

The incident took place on 20 March 2026, when a group of community members allegedly attacked the elderly man using wooden sticks, sharp weapons, and a firearm, resulting in his death.

Following the killing, the suspects allegedly set fire to a six-roomed house, two rondavels, and a kraal, which were completely destroyed. A four-roomed house on the property was also damaged in the incident.

On 25 March 2026 at 23:00, a joint operation was conducted by the Tactical Response Team and Libode Detectives in Zibungu A/A, Tabase, and Ngcungcu Locality. Three suspects, aged 40, 43, and 35, were positively identified and arrested.

They face charges of murder, arson, and malicious damage to property. The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

Police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing and further arrests have not been ruled out.
