Three accused face lengthy jail sentences, Mbizana

SAPS Management commends the investigating officers for vehemently pursuing their investigations in securing successful convictions. The Cluster Commander of Mount Ayliff, Brigadier MH Mtukushe welcomed the sentencing of the accused.

Bonginkosi Sonwabo Bantu Bani (29) was sentenced to undergo 18 years imprisonment for murder by Mbizana Regional Court yesterday, 17 May 2018.

The incident took place at Lucingweni Location, Amadiba A/A, Mbizana on the 09 April 2017. The accused killed his girlfriend by stabbing her multiple times. The accused then reported the murder as being committed by unknown persons. The perseverance of the investigating officer evidenced that he in fact committed this atrocious act.

And 50 year old Ncedile Pakathi was convicted and sentenced to undergo 10 years imprisonment for Murder, 2 years imprisonment for possession of unlicensed firearm and a 1 year imprisonment for unlawful possession of ammunition.

The incident took place at Plangeni Location, Amadiba A/A, Mbizana on 23 August 2016 in the afternoon. A 22 year old was apprehended by CPF members for questioning, when a member of the community shot the suspect and ran away. He was shot in the back by the accused.

And 32 year old Monwabisi Mphetshwa was sentenced to undergo 13 years imprisonment for Attempted Murder yesterday 17 May 2018.

Incident took place in Mfuleni Location, Imizizi A/A, Mbizana on 14 November 2017 in the morning.

The accused stabbed his 54 year old mother after he suspected that his two roomed flat was demolished by his mother which started a quarrel. On the day in question his mother was in the garden waiting for a tractor, when the accused arrived he went straight to the garden and stabbed his mother several wounds up until she fell.

“These sentences send out a clear message that perpetrators will be sought and brought to book. Our investigators continue with determination to investigate every case comprehensively to restore the public’s faith in the SAPS and justice system,” said Brigadier Mtutuzeli Mtukushe Cluster Commander of Mount Ayliff.
