The Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Ronald Koll has strongly condemned the brutal murder of a 27-year-old man found in Addo Road in Motherwell on the morning of 5 August 2021.

It is alleged that at about 08:30, the severely battered body of Zwolethu Songotsha from NU11 in Motherwell was found with several stab wounds to his head and upper body.

It is further suspected that the community meted out their own punishment on him after accusing him of theft.

SAPS Ikamvelihle is investigating a case of murder.

Any person with information that can assist police in this investigation, can contact the Ikamvelihle Detectives, Detective Captain Debbie Steyn at 082 394 8369 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stop at 08600 10111.

Brig Koll is urging the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands because it is a criminal offence to do so. “Every citizen must abide by the law and to inform police of any suspect/s or to call police if you (the community) managed to arrest an alleged suspect in order to avoid any further criminal acts through mob justice. Mob justice is not a solution and will not be tolerated,” warned Brig Koll.
