Police responded to information that someone was busy tampering with municipal water meters around Baysville area, East London. The suspect, a 27 year old man was found in possession of a water meter and also mandrax tablets and dagga bompies. Further investigations, lead the police to a scrap metal dealership at Southern wood, where he sells his loot.

More water meters and taps were recovered from this dealership and the owner, a 22 year old was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.

The Mdantsane Cluster Commander, Major General Henry Vos is perturbed about the theft of non-ferrous metals as these acts disrupt people’s daily lives and a huge inconvenience to our communities. He thanked his members for their swift action.

The suspects will appear before the East London Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 26 July 2019, facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property and possession of drugs respectively.
