Vandalism and theft is a huge concern within the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.

A 35-year-old suspect was arrested on the night of 14 July 2022, when SAPS Bethelsdorp members were walking around the perimeters of the station.

It is alleged that at approximately 23:15, while members at the Community Service Centre were walking inside the premises, they heard noises coming from the communal site where the Nelson Mandela Municipality installed taps to assist the community during the water disaster that is currently being experienced in the metro.

The suspect was caught in the act removing the copper brass fittings from the taps.

A total of 32 brass fittings was found in his possession.

The suspect was detained on a charge of theft and will appear in the Gelvandale Magistrate court soon.
