Four high ranking Alfred Ndzo District Municipality officials, a businessman and his entity will appear in the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court for allegations of fraud and contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act on 24 March 2022.
This follows their arrest by the East London based Serious Corruption Investigation team of the Hawks.
During 2012, a certain company was allegedly awarded a R38 million tender for the installation of water meter readings at Alfred Ndzo District Municipality which were already installed.
The said company is further alleged to have subcontracted another company which is reported to have taken over the tender and received the proceeds.
The investigations further revealed that the subcontracted company was already paying considerable amounts to the bidding committee during the bidding process.
