Controversial televangelist and pastor of Jesus Dominion International Church, Timothy Omotoso, has been arrested in the Eastern Cape province. The arrest comes just weeks after he and two co-accused, Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho, were acquitted on multiple charges, including rape, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

The High Court had dismissed the case last month, with Judge Irma Schoeman ruling that the state failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. However, Omotoso was detained again today, though the exact charges remain unclear. Reports indicate that he was arrested by Home Affairs immigration officials.

Outside the police station, a crowd of supporters gathered, demanding his release and maintaining his innocence. Meanwhile, tensions remain high as local groups, including the provincial chapter of an unnamed organization, planned protests against Omotoso’s scheduled revival sermons in Buffalo City Metro.

Mayor Princess Faku had previously urged Omotoso to cancel the events, but he proceeded with his plans before today’s arrest. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the charges. More updates are expected as the situation develops.
