The Minister of Police, Honourable Mr Bheki Cele facilitated a peace agreement between two taxi organisations Bata and Uncedo that will see the return of taxis in Mthatha tonight, 20 April 2018.

This signing will result in automatic removal of a stringent measures regulated through a government gazette authorising closure of taxi trade on two major routes from Mthatha to Port St Johns, Tsolo and Maclear roads.

This breakthrough was reached in a meeting that was held tonight at 8pm attended by the Police Minister, Mec Tikana, Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Ntshinga, OR Tambo Mayor-Mrs Meth and taxi association representatives -President of Bata: Mr Gaylor and Mr Mshiywa and the local clergy.

A further meeting will be held on Sunday, 22 April 2018 that will iron out some outstanding details about the peace agreement.
