Swift response sees arrest after woman (61) tied up, robbed, PE

Swift reaction by SAPS Walmer members resulted in the arrest of an alleged robbery suspect and one other ‘person of interest’.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, 22 August 2018 at about 08:20, the 61 year old complainant was at her home/business in Union Road when she heard noises in her yard. As she opened the front door, 3 unknown males pushed her into the house. They were armed with a firearm, a crowbar and an unknown weapon.

The woman was tied up and some of the safes in the house and office were opened. Two firearms and cash were taken. The domestic worker was also tied up and shoved in the bedroom with the complainant.

When the suspects left, they managed to free themselves and alerted police and the security company. Two cell phones were also taken.

It is further alleged that the suspects fled in an Audi A4. As soon as the vehicle was circulated, Walmer police spotted the vehicle, fitting the description and the driver was pulled over. He was arrested for house robbery and his female companion was taken in by police for questioning.

Police are still looking for the other two suspects as well as the stolen firearms and property.

The suspect (36) will appear in court soon.
