Swift response leads to arrest of house robbery suspect, Motherwell

A 37-year-old alleged house robbery suspect was arrested soon after an incident took place at a house in Sixwila Street in NU8 in Motherwell on the afternoon of 14 September 2021.

It is alleged that at about 13:20, the complainant (29) was inside the house when an unknown male entered, looking for her brother. When she told him that he was not there, he left the house but immediately returned and threatened the complainant, demanding her cellphone and bank card.

A TV set was also taken and the complainant was instructed to load it into his car.

The registration number and make of the car was circulated via police channels. SAPS Motherwell Vispol Task Team members spotted a white Ford Tracer in Mpongoshe Street in Motherwell.

There were no registration plates on the front or rear of vehicle. The vehicle was pulled over and on searching him, the complainant’s cellphone and bank cards were found in his possession. Further investigation led the members to a house in Ntimba Street in NU 11 where the TV was recovered.

The suspect was detained on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and house robbery. The vehicle was also impounded for further investigation. He is expected to appear in court soon.
