In order to end crimes against women, children and the elderly, perpetrators need to be arrested and brought to justice. This can only be done if everyone start to change their attitude towards domestic violence related crimes including femicide.

These crimes are a priority for the South African Police Service and as the country observes 16 days of Activism, female officers from the Mount Road cluster detectives have taken a stance and held a suspect raiding from the night of 27 November 2019, from 22:00 until the morning of 28 November 2019 at 06:00.

The detective officers from across the cluster stations (7 stations) worked earnestly in rounding up wanted suspects. A total of 28 suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from domestic violence, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault, robbery, Intimidation, housebreaking etc.

The arrested suspects will appear in the respective magistrates’ courts tomorrow, 29 November 2019.

Mount Road Cluster Commander, Maj Gen Thembisile Patekile applauded the excellent arrests and the dedication and commitment of the officers.

‘As the SAPS we are mandated to give priority to all gender based violence crimes. We encourage this vulnerable group not to keep quiet but to report any abuse. Each domestic beating is a likely to result in murder if not addressed immediately. ’
