A 35-year-old suspect was arrested in the early hours of the morning on 13 December 2023 by the multi-disciplinary team that’s comprised of Provincial Cash-In-Transit Task Team of Serious Organised Crime Investigation of the Hawks, Mthatha National Intervention Unit (NIU), Tactical Response Team (TRT), Local Criminal Record Centre, Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU), DPCI Corporate Communication and Mthatha Crime Intelligence (CI) facing allegations of possession of stolen vehicle.
The joint team received information about a suspected stolen vehicle which were in a particular homestead in one of the locations at Tsolo. The disruptive operation proceeded to the said household where on their arrival they recovered a white Nissan NP200 inside the garage. Preliminary investigation was conducted and exposed that the vehicle was stolen in Mthatha. A search and seizure disruptive operation was conducted at the accused’s home and the vehicle was confiscated for investigation.
The suspect will make his first court appearance in Tsolo Magistrates’ Court on 14 December 2023 and he is remanded in custody.
The Acting Provincial Head of the Hawks, Brigadier Selina Motlalepula Maponya praised the joint operation for the sterling job in making sure that the criminals one by one are brought to books.
