Continuous seizures and confiscation of illegal and stolen firearms is a step closer to reducing serious and violent crimes as well as firearm related crimes.
On Friday 8 November 2019, at about 21:05, SAPS Bethelsdorp members were patrolling in a hotspot area in Booysens Park when they noticed a suspicious male in Prince Street. The members stopped and on searching him, found a firearm under his armpit. The suspect resisted but was overpowered by police.
The firearm, a 9mm pistol was reported stolen in Nooigedacht Road in Booyens Park in October 2019.
The 26-year-old suspect is detained on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court on Monday, 11 November 2019.
