A 32-year-old suspect was arrested in East London after Mdantsane Flying Squad members responded to a backup request from SQ Risk, who were tracking cellphones stolen during a business robbery in Vincent Park, East London.

According to reports, the incident unfolded on Saturday, 05 July 2025, at approximately 10:30, when operational members proceeded to St George’s Street in Southernwood after receiving information on the suspects’ whereabouts. A thorough investigation led them to the 8th floor of a building, where they recovered multiple cellphones, routers, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Authorities also seized two unlicensed firearms—a Norinco 9mm pistol and a .38 Special revolver—along with live ammunition. The firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine possible links to other crimes.

While one suspect was apprehended for possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and suspected stolen property, others managed to flee upon seeing the police. A Suzuki vehicle, allegedly used in the commission of the crime, was also confiscated. Fake registration number plates were discovered during the operation.

The arrested suspect is expected to appear before the East London Magistrate’s Court soon. Police investigations are ongoing as they pursue the remaining suspects involved in the robbery.
