Successful sentences for FCS investigator, Mount Fletcher

SAPS endeavours continue to yield positive results as more heavy sentences are handed down as a result of the quality investigative skills adopted by our dedicated Detectives. The efforts of our investigator were rewarded when, in two of her cases, she managed to secure sentences of 15 years imprisonment.

It is alleged that in the first case, on 11 November 2017, at 17:50, the 15-year-old victim went to collect water at the river at the Fairview locality. The 19-year-old accused approached her and wanted to talk to her. She refused and he then dragged her to a nearby shack and where she was raped.

The accused Ovayo Mncedane (19) was sentenced to 15 years Imprisonment for rape by the Mount Fletcher regional court on 12 November 2020.

In a second and unrelated case, a 71-year-old victim attended a ceremony at the Chevy Case area on 9 June 2019.

After the ceremony she went home and was sitting on her bed to rest when the accused entered and went straight to her. He then dragged her to the floor and raped her. Fortunately she was able to identify him as they were from the same locality.

On 13 November 2020 the 38-year-old accused was sentenced to 15 years Imprisonment for rape by the Mount Fletcher Regional Court.

The acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Rudolph Adolph, congratulated the meticulous and professional investigation by Detective Sergeant Nombuyiselo Mbungendlu.

The sentence is the outcome of the SAPS unwavering commitment in the fight against crimes against women and children and hard work of the investigation officer and other specialized disciplines of the SAPS together with the NPA.
