During an operation held on the 11 September 2020, Crime Intelligence (CI) members received information about sheep that were being loaded on a white Toyota stallion. The suspicion was that the sheep were stolen at Sihlabeni locality in Bityi area.

CI followed the described motor vehicle while Tactical Response Teams from Ngcobo and Bityi were activated. A follow-up was done along the R61 direction Ngcobo. The described vehicle was stopped and searched close to Ngxoki locality, Ngcobo and indeed it was discovered transporting 18 sheep.

The driver could not give satisfactory explanation or proof that the sheep belonged to him. A 52-year-old man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen sheep.

The eighteen sheep with an estimated value of R20 000-00 were confiscated and will be handed to the bonafide owner upon producing positive proof of ownership.

The suspect is expected to appear at the Ngcobo magistrate’s court on Monday, 14 September 2020.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga commended the members for the recovery and arrest. “Stock theft must be stopped and through intelligence driven interventions we will succeed,” she said.
