The swift reaction of the members of SAPS Steynsburg led to the successful arrest of five suspects who allegedly robbed a Spaza Shop.

It is alleged that on 28 May 2021 at about 19:25, the five suspects entered a spaza shop with the intention to rob the owner. The three armed men pretended to buy cigarettes and then pointed the 26-year-old complainant with firearms. Cash and cigarettes were taken. The alarm was activated and the community alerted the police.

Police responded immediately and when the suspect saw them, they got out of a blue VW Golf and ran in different directions.

The members chased after them and managed to arrest four of the suspects.

The 5th suspect was arrested on the Steynsburg main road by a member from forensics who was on his way to the scene.

All five of the suspects aged 20-44 years old were detained on a charge of business robbery. The stolen items, a .22 calibre pistol, a pellet gun and plastic toy gun were recovered.

They are expected to appear on Monday, 31 May 2021 at the Steynsburg magistrate court.
