Sports bar robber apprehended by PE Flying Squad

Concerted efforts to effectively address trio crimes in the Uitenhage Cluster, paid off on Wednesday, 21 November 2018, when Port Elizabeth Flying Squad members responded immediately to a business robbery that occurred in Graaff Reinet Road, Uitenhage at 10:15.

It is alleged that four armed suspects (all had firearms) entered the Sports Bar, threatened the manager and staff and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the business and fled in a white Volkswagen Polo.

The Police in Uitenhage were immediately notified and the description of the vehicle and registration was circulated by members of the Uitenhage 10111 Centre. Members from the Flying Squad managed to apprehend one male suspect, a 35 year old male, and a large sum of cash was also recovered, believed to be connected to the robbery. The search for the outstanding three suspects are continuing.

The possibility that the suspect might be linked to other business robberies in the Uitenhage/PE Clusters are under investigation. Detectives from the Operational Command Centre in Uitenhage are investigating a case of robbery at a business premises and the arrest of the outstanding suspects are imminent.

The suspect is due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrates Court on Friday, 23 November 2018.

The South African Police Service will continue with their Back to Basics approach, with the aim to intensify their patrols in order to ensure the safety of all citizens over this festive season. The acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll commended the members for their swift response and vigilance in ensuring that they bring those culprits who break the law, to book.
