Sidwell business robbery, brave delivery man arrests one suspect

A brave delivery man chased after fleeing robbery suspects and successfully apprehended one in a side street in Sidwell on the afternoon of 26 June 2019.

It is alleged that at about 15:55, four men posing as customers entered an electrical business in Sutton Street in Sidwell and then left. About 5 minutes, 3 returned and held the staff at gunpoint. The complainant (22) and the staff were ushered into the office and he was forced to open it. The complainant’s cell phone was also taken. A bag which was mistaken to be money was taken. The bag contained keys and not money.

The suspect also did not realise that the complainant’s cell phone fell out of his pocket as he was bending. As the suspect’s fled the premises, the delivery person was riding in with his motorbike and saw the suspect with the firearm. He chased after them on his motorbike and managed to arrest one suspect in Fowler Street (Side Street). The other two ran away. The bag of keys was also found in his possession.

The 24 year old suspect from Kwazakhele is expected to appear in court soon on a charge of business robbery. Mount Road Detective Trio Task Team members are following up on several leads of the outstanding suspects.
