Landile Tele (39) appeared in court on Friday 12 february 2021, following his re-arrest in KwaNobuhle by the Port Elizabeth Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team.

Tele failed to make his appearance in the Humansdorp Magistrates’ Court for a case relating to a carjacking that occurred in Thornhill where a BAT cigarette truck was robbed of its cargo on 16 April 2015.

He was arrested shortly after the incident together with two other suspects. He was denied bail at first as he was regarded as a danger to society but was later granted bail. Tele failed to appear in court on 3 September 2020 and a warrant of arrest was issued hence his arrest on Friday.

Further investigation revealed that Tele was linked to four cases of armed robbery in 2015 and one in 2019, including additional cases of cash-in-transit robbery in King Williams Town where he was arrested but escaped from custody, following cases of possession of unlicensed firearm as well as possession of stolen property.

Tele is also suspected to have been part of a syndicate that is involved in recent incidents of ATM bombing, police killing, cash-in-transit robbery and truck hijacking in George.

Tele was denied bail and will appear again in court on the 21 March 2021.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Head of Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya commended the team for ultimately bringing a long sought after suspect who is posing a serious danger to society.
