A convicted serial rapist Luvuyo Malawana Mananga (38), from NU16 Mdantsane was meted with three life sentences and 205 years imprisonment at Bhisho High Court on 21 November 2018.

The suspect was found guilty and charged for 27 counts varying from rape, kidnapping, aggravated robbery and pointing with a firearm that were committed between the years 2007 to 2011. He was arrested for another unrelated rape case when detectives positively identified him with the following sexual offences through DNA linkage.

Bhisho High Court Judge, Belinda Hartley described Luvuyo Malawana Mananga as a menace and danger to society whose violence and complete disregard for the rights and dignity of his victims. “He deserve to be taken away from society for a long time.” Throughout the sentencing, Malawana Mananga cut a lone, quite pose effectively hiding his face from the glaring eyes and clicking cameras of media personnel.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape, Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga welcomed the sentence and extended her gratitude to individuals, groups and organisations within the community who continue to support and offer help and counselling to the sexual offence victims as well as members of the public who report such occurrences including testifying when requested.

She also added, “More credit should also go to the intergovernmental collaborative effort between the prosecution, police, courts and other government partners like Department of Health and Social Development that are key players and catalysts to this individual and other successful convictions.”
