The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Zithulele Dladla, commended the work of detectives who arrested a 51-year-old Warrant Officer for allegedly raping a woman inside the police premises at Griffiths Mxenge Building on Saturday evening, 20 November 2021 in Zwelitsha.

According to the reports, the 21-year-old woman was hitch-hiking from King Williams Town to Breidbach when a car stopped to offer a lift to her.

The report further reveals that near Breidbach the driver pretended to have received a call which necessitated him to drive back to the office.

On arrival at the office, it is alleged that the suspect raped the victim and later dropped her near Izele where she found a way to escape to the police station to report the matter.

On preliminary investigation, the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit found the suspect at the Police Head Office in Zwelitsha where he was arrested and later detained in police cells.

The case has been handed over to the Independent Police Complaints Directorate for further investigation.

The suspect will be charged for rape and is expected to appear before Zwelitsha Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 24 November 2021.
