The criminal behavior of the community of Mphangana Locality in Libode, which led to the murder of four men aged between 30 and 55 years has been strongly condemned by the South African Police Service in the Eastern Cape.

A stern warning is issued to members of the community, not to take the law into their own hands.

The bodies which were dumped at a nearby forest were recovered on 31 July 2017 with wounds. It is alleged that the deceased were accused of being linked to stock theft in the area and all were from the same locality.

Libode SAPS are investigating murder dockets and members are currently at the locality tracing the suspects.

The SAPS will not tolerate this behavior, because avenge seekers become criminals themselves, and SAPS will have no option, but to arrest them for their unlawful actions. It is very critical that the community members work with the SAPS and report criminals and criminal activities irrespective of the nature of the incident.

In another unrelated incident, police in Mthatha have opened a case of murder following the murder of a 54-year-old local priest.

The incident occurred at Craister Street in Mthatha on 31 July 2017 at about 23:45. The vehicle he was driving hit the wall of the building and was severely damaged. No arrests have been made as yet and the motive for the killing is not known.
