Members of the KwaMaqoma South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested two suspects and seized narcotics with an estimated street value of over R1 million during a patrol on Wednesday.

According to police reports, officers acted on intelligence regarding a vehicle suspected of transporting drugs along the R63 road between KwaMaqoma and Alice on 18 February 2026.

Police located and stopped the vehicle matching the description provided. A subsequent search of the conveyance led to the discovery of 60 plastic bags containing mandrax tablets.

The occupants, aged 43 and 46, were arrested at the scene. They are expected to appear before the KwaMaqoma Magistrate’s Court on charges related to the possession of drugs.

Following the arrests, police launched further investigations to determine the ownership of the vehicle, as the suspects were unable to provide a clear explanation regarding its provenance. Consequently, the vehicle was seized, and an additional charge of possession of a suspected stolen vehicle was added.
