SAPS operations sweep throughout Mdantsane cluster, EL

Stabilisation and visibility operations swept throughout Mdantsane Cluster over the weekend. This came after the Station Commanders from various clusters ascended to Mdantsane for the operations which resumed on Friday 16 August 2019, at 13:00 until 22:00 and Saturday: 13:00 till 22:00.

High visibility was maintained at the following areas on the first day of the operation – N.U. 8, 9, 12, Vincent, Cambridge CBD and location and Amalinda. Fourteen suspects, aged between 24 and 59 years were arrested for non-compliance on liquor licences, one for possession of stolen laptop, one for possession of drugs and one for dealing in dagga, two for theft out of motor vehicle, three for theft and two for fraud.

During stop and search operations, 78 persons and 18 vehicles were searched and 15 knives were confiscated. One Second Hand goods shop was closed for non-compliance and four shebeens closed and liquor confiscated while fines to the value of R8000 were issued for other non-compliance related offences.

The second day of the operation saw eight suspects arrested – three suspects in their thirties arrested for drunken driving and one suspect arrested for driving without a licence and four for theft out of motor vehicle which was reported before starting our operation.

The suspects will appear in the Mdantsane and East London Magistrates Courts soon on various charges.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga applauded members for their participation in the crime-fighting operations. “We will continue to reaffirm the authority of the State through these stabilisation and visibility operations. We strive to ensure that the communities are and feel safe through intensive policing and stability and visibility operations,” she said.
