In an effort to quell crime like gender based violence, illicit trade in liquor, illegal firearms and general disregard for law at Lusikisiki and Flagstaff, members were deployed in different areas under the auspices of Operation Gijima Tsotsi.

Station Commanders from different clusters have been tasked with the role of conducting operations as opposed to sending junior members. According to EC Provincial Head for Visible Policing, Brigadier Malibongwe Ntsabo, there are two groups that will focus on Lusikisiki and Flagstaff respectively.

“We have divided our team into two groups that will focus in Lusikisiki and Flagstaff rural areas respectively. We want to ensure that the community is safe,” he said.

While doing duties at Dlelengana location Ngcoya a/a in Lusikisiki, a 38 year old male suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm. The Revolver Flywheel with sixty two (62) live rounds of ammunition was confiscated and will be sent for ballistic test to ascertain whether it was previously used in committing crime.

Department of Home Affairs who are part of the operations assisted with the arrest of two undocumented immigrants.

Liquor abuse is always associated in a commission of crime especially rape and gender based violence. As a result the operation visited liquor dealers to check compliance to their licence conditions. This is one of the reasons members were sent to Gqubeni A / A in Lusikisiki precinct where 2000 litres of liquor was confiscated as part of the operation.

On 13 September 2019, members deployed at Lusikisiki and Port St Johns Clusters visited five illegal traders in alcohol and fined them a sum of R2500-00. Another 34 year old suspect was arrested for selling fake local music CDs and was detained at Lusikisiki SAPS. Eighty fake CDs were also confiscated. Operations continues.

A store that sells illegal medication and drugs was visited and pills and expired cough mixtures were confiscated. The operations were conducted on 13 and 14 September 2019.
