“It is with great sadness that we report the loss of two of our police officials who died in separate incidents over the past weeks in the Province. It is indeed a setback when we lose our members in senseless incidents of murder. Our sincerest condolences are extended to their bereaved families, friends and colleagues, as we share in their loss and pain. We will render the best possible support to their families and make sure that those responsible are brought to book,” said Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga.
It is alleged that on 25 June 2017 at about 02:00, 39-year-old off duty Sgt Makhaya Copiso, attached to Queenstown POP was shot and killed during an altercation. A suspect has been arrested and he will again appear in the Ezibeleni Magistrates Court on 6 July 2017.
In another tragic incident, it is alleged that the body of 36-year-old Const Vuyo Matshisi was found in the boot of a burnt out vehicle in Peddie on 2nd July 2017. He was stationed at Gelvandale SAPS and was off duty at the time.
SAPS are investigating a case of murder and all circumstances surrounding the murder are being investigated.
