Robbery and murder: Three accused get hefty sentences, KWT cluster

The King Williams Town Cluster welcomes the successful convictions of three suspects for robbery and murder. Detective Sergeant Melumzi Pita of Ndevana who worked on this cases since 2018 made sure no stone is left unturned. The suspects were arrested in Ndevana and appeared several times at Zwelitsha Magistrate Court.

Two robbery suspects were granted bail of R500 each and the murder suspect R1 000.

On 5 July 2019 and 11 July 2019 the trio was found guilty and sentenced at Zwelitsha Magistrate Court as follows:

Aphelele Dumani (22) : 7 years imprisonment for robbery
Thembelani Mbambo (23) : 10 years imprisonment for robbery
Lundi Mbekwa (37): 12 years imprisonment for murder.

King William’s Town SAPS Cluster Commander, Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga welcomed the sentences handed down to the suspects. He thanked the Investigating Officer for thorough and sterling investigation ensuring the perpetrators are put behind bars.

“This shows great sense of the SAPS mandate to bring justice to the communities and create a safer environment for all” he added.
