Robbery and murder suspects get hefty sentences, Queenstown

Queenstown Cluster Commander Major General Funeka Siganga welcomed the sentence and thanked the investigating officer for his commitment in ensuring that justice is once again served.

The Grahamstown High Court sentenced two accused for robbery and murder of 42 year old Xolani Mahlinza which took place during April 2017.

Xolani Mahlinza was found wrapped with a cello tape covering his face at his home at ‘Who Can Tell A/A Queenstown’.

During the investigation two suspects Xolani Mahlinza(24) and Musa Mpekula (27) were arrested at Welkom and the vehicle that was robbed from deceased was also recovered. Investigating Officer Detective Warrant Officer Ziphathe Songca successfully opposed bail.

On Friday 17 May 2018 both accused were found guilty. Ncedile Makasi was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for murder and 15 years for robbery while Musa was sentenced to Life imprisonment for murder and 15 years in robbery.
