The quick response from Police at Qumbu Station led to the arrest of a 35 year old robbery suspect and the seizure of two illegal firearms and ammunition.

This followed after three unknown armed men arrived at Boxer Super Save Store in Qumbu on 3 August 2017 at about 07:30 and demanded money at gun point.

After taking the money, they fled in a white VW Golf. Information was received by Qumbu Police on the whereabouts of the robbers, they responded immediately and gave chase. The vehicle stopped and dropped the suspects off at the nearby Bajodini Locality in Qumbu. It was then that the suspects noticed police in pursuit and they started shooting at police.

Police members retaliated by firing back and during the cross fire, one suspect was shot and rushed to hospital under police guard. A second suspect was fatally wounded during the cross fire.

Two 9mm pistols with thirteen rounds of ammunition were recovered from the deceased and injured suspects. The third suspect managed to escape.
