Revenge murder, man sentenced to 25 years, Gelvandale

A 35-year-old murder accused was sentenced on 25 August 2020, to 25 years imprisonment for the murder of a 53-year-old Gelvandale man in January 2019.

In January 2019, Niftagudin Mallick and his wife were walking down Bell Road in Gelvandale when a BMW stopped next to them. The driver got out of the vehicle and shot Mallick in his neck and lower body. He died on the scene. The accused, Brendon Lucas drove to the police station and handed himself over.

His licensed firearm was also confiscated. He remained in custody until the finalization of his case.

The motive for the murder was revenge for the murder of his father who was shot dead in 2016 allegedly by Mallick’s son. Mallick’s son was acquitted of the murder.

Brendon Lucas pleaded guilty to the murder.
