Replica guns or toy guns can look incredibly real and is often used in the commission of serious crimes such as robberies. It is alleged that on Tuesday, 5 February 2019 at about 00:15 members of Port Elizabeth Flying Squad followed up on information of suspects at a shack in Missionvale in possession of drugs and firearms.

As the members approached the shacks in Trom Road, Missionvale, the suspects saw them from a distance and fled into the nearby bushes. Upon searching the shack, the members confiscated 3 replica firearms with magazines, 1 homemade zip gun with a firing pin, 4 live 9mm rounds and 9 mandrax tablets. No arrests have been made.

Mount Road Cluster Commander, Major General Thembisile Patekile has commended the members on swiftly following up on the information.’ Even though these are replica firearms, we know that criminals are using them to commit crimes. We thank the community for providing us with information of the suspects and their activities and we urge them to continue to do so,’ added Major General Patekile.
