During the early morning hours of today, 26 September 2018, police arrested a 20 year old suspect for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

This followed after the Motherwell Cluster Operational Command Centre (OCC) followed up on information received about a suspect with illegal firearms.

At about 03:00, the OCC members searched a house in Mkhuze street in Zwide. The 20 year old male suspect was found in one of the rooms having a 38 revolver with four (4) rounds ammunition hidden in his pants. A further search also uncovered a 7,65 pistol hidden under the bed. The pistol had no ammunition.

Both firearms will be subjected to ballistic and forensic testing as their serial numbers were removed.

The suspect will be appearing in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 27 September 2018 to face charges of illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
