During July 2018 the victim was on her way home. On the way she was grabbed by the suspect who raped her and after took her cell phone.
A case of rape was reported and was assigned to Sgt Nomtandazo Qina. Sgt Qina sacrificed many hours during investigation until the case was finalized
On Friday 4 February 2022, Elona Basela was found Guilty at Queenstown Regional Court and was sentenced to undergo 12 months for theft and 7 years for rape.
Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Zuziwe Magqashela commended the work done by investigating officer.
