Eastern Cape Police welcomed the 33 years imprisonment handed to a 27 year old man for raping three university students. The accused was found guilty and sentenced to undergo 33 years of imprisonment by the Butterworth Regional Magistrate Court, on Thursday 12 April 2018

It is alleged that the convicted rapist, Vusumzi Mpayipheli went to the residence of the Walter University students at Ibika Township, Butterworth on 05 March 2016 at about 03:30. The convicted rapist entered their room and dragged them out of their rooms one by one while the three victims aged 18, 19 and 26 were fast asleep.

He raped all of them.

A rape case was registered at Msobomvu Police Station. Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) investigated the case. Eastern Cape SAPS provincial commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga congratulated the investigating officer of the case. She hoped that the lengthy sentence handed down to the convicted rapist will serve as a deterrent to other men who still think they can abuse women and children and still get away with it without proper punishment.
