The Joe Gqabi acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Rudolph Adolph and his management lauded the efforts of the investigating officer and the prosecution team who all contributed to the hefty sentencing handed down to a 29-year-old child rapist at the Grahamstown High Court on 30 April 2021.

It is alleged that on 18 July 2017 at about 15:00, the accused, Bokang Tamane from Lady Grey allegedly approached three children playing and pretended to seek help to carry his luggage from a hiking spot. He then took them to an open field and raped them.

A case was opened and assigned to Investigating Officer, Sergeant Luvuyo Mqombothi attached to Aliwal North Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit.

The suspect was arrested on the 20 July 2017 and sentenced between 26 and 30 April 2021 at the Grahamstown High Court. He was sentenced to undergo life imprisonment.

The acting District Commissioner, Brig Rudolph Adolph has congratulated the collaboration between SAPS and the NPA that resulted in securing a lengthy prison term.
