On Thursday, 8 October 2020, at the Mount Fletcher Magistrate Court, 29-year-old Ncedo Nyathela was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for rape.

It is alleged that on 7 June 2017, the victim was on her way from a shop when she met the accused. He pulled her to his place of residence where he raped her and refused to release her. The 17-year-old victim was mentally challenged.

She was rescued by her uncle who continually searched for her. The case was opened and Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses took over the investigations. Suspect was arrested and remained in custody until finalization of the case.

The acting District Commissioner Brigadier Rudolph Adolph commended the Investigating officer Detective Sgt Nombuyiselo Mbungendla on the professional investigation of the case that led to the conviction and sentence of the accused.
