SAPS endeavours to ensure that rapists are sent to jail for a long time is yielding positive results due to the excellent investigation skills of our dedicated detectives from the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
On 7 January 2018, a 7-year-old victim and her friend were playing in the street when the suspect called them to his house close by. He then sent the one girl to go and buy tobacco at a shop while he raped the other child.
When the friend came back, she saw her friend crying and they left. The child reported the matter to her mother. On 8 January 2018, Andile Hlazo (31) was arrested and during his court appearances he was released on bail. He failed to honour his bail conditions and was re-arrested and remained in custody until he was sentenced.
