The fight against gender-based violence (GBV) continuous and every effort must be made to arrest the perpetrators and ensure that justice is served.
The Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Gqeberha secured a life term imprisonment sentence for a stepfather after he was found guilty of raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter during 2018 and 2019.
On 9 March 2021, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Also on 9 March 2021, a 26-year-old rape accused was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in a separate case. The investigating officer in both cases was Detective Sergeant Joshua Shilajoe of the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Gqeberha.
