On Thursday, 25 November 2021, the Grahamstown High Court sentenced a 57-year-old man as follows:

Murder – life imprisonment, Rape – life imprisonment.

This followed the brutal murder and rape of a 66-year-old female from the Nomzamo locality in Mlungisi, who was found deceased in her homestead on 23 November 2020.

On the mentioned date, the deceased was with the accused and other friends at her homestead.

The following morning, witnesses noticed that the door was still closed and locked from the outside. On further investigation they found the deceased female on the floor and covered with blankets.

The accused was successfully apprehended and arrested on 24 November 2020. The Investigation Officer, Sergeant N.M. Musa successfully opposed bail and the accused was remanded in custody until the date of sentencing.

The Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Magqashela has welcomed the sentences handed down to the rapist and murderer, and praised the Mlungisi Station Commander, Colonel Zanemvuka Gwebani for the efforts of his team and also commended the Detective Sergeant M.M. Musa for her relentless efforts and determination which led to this harsh sentence handed down.
