The thorough investigation of crime and relentless efforts by members of the Uitenhage Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) with their strategic partners in the criminal justice system proved to be successful when a perpetrator was sent to prison for eight years.

Siyabulela Kinikini (39) was sentenced to eight years imprisonment on Monday, 15 October 2018, by the Uitenhage Regional Court, on a charge of rape.

Kinikini was convicted and sentenced following the rape of a 26 year old victim at 21:10 on 3 March 2018 at a residence in KwaNobuhle. A case of rape was opened and Kinikini was arrested on 9 March 2018 on the charge.

The acting Cluster Commander for Uitenhage, Brigadier Ronald Koll has commended the FCS unit for their thorough investigations and said:

“We commend the detectives from the FCS Unit and the Justice Department for their sterling efforts in bringing the perpetrator to book. The South African Police Service has the responsibility to protect the vulnerable in society and these responsibilities are taken very seriously through thorough investigations that ultimately leads to effective prosecution.”
