The raging fire of “Die Train” previously known as “The Gravy Train” was not the cause of another service delivery protest. The fire according to the owner started in the kitchen. The fire spread quickly and could not be contained and everything was destroyed in the fire.
An investigation is pending, and the “big” question is why the fire department took so long to respond to this grave incident. No people were injured. Questions will be asked why the fire department took a long time to respond and if they did react quickly would the restaurant survived the fire.
Die Train has been in Kings Beach for decades, and the train carriages consisting of a restaurant and pub were set up in 1947 to commemorate the British Royal family visit to South Africa. It is indeed sad that another landmark is burnt down. The restaurant will probably not be rebuilt as the owner was not insured.
